Some friends of mine were going to the qualifying matches for the US Open. So I thought I would tag along... and then surprise surprise! Both my friend's husband and mine last minute had to head out of town, so she invited me along! We were both absolutely dazzled by the opening ceremonies. Had no idea of what was in store for us. They even made an announcement warning the crowds not to be nervous by the lights, music, and pyrotechnics... they had something special planned for us. And special it was. A performance by-wait for it... BLACK VIOLIN!!!! Oh wait, haven't heard of them? I guess you're not in the "in" crowd that gets soulful violin rap music. But don't worry, I have included a clip for you so you could join the crowd. ALSO we got to hear Jordan Sparks perform! There were fireworks and smoke, just like they had promised.
We got to watch Kim Klijster play Victoria Duvall. A sixteen year-old's first US Open and she played again Kim Klijster who has been to nine US Opens. It was a really fun match to watch! Duvall played well, I was impressed. Klijster ended up winning.
We then were able to watch Federer play Young (a US athlete who did well in the Olympics I guess? I didn't know who he is). We had to leave in the middle of this one, but we are pretty sure Federer won. It is always entertaining to watch him. He is really talented. I guess that's why he is #1 in the world...
